Region: Heathcote, Victoria

She-Oak Hill is one of Heathcote’s hidden gems. Planted in 1975 by Gordon Leckie senior, the 10 acre 100% dry grown vineyard, along with Mt Ida and Jasper Hill, was one of the founding pioneers of modern Heathcote wine. The Leckie family, who run She-Oak Hill to this day, continue to produce outstanding wine from this boutique vineyard.

The dry grown vines have established deep roots in the rich Cambrian soil. In addition, extensive use of straw mulching, cane pruning by hand and utilisation of biological rather than chemical controls, ensures that the vines produce low yields of premium fruit. The grapes are handpicked, and the wines are made at neighbouring Sanguine Estate by one of the region’s best winemakers, Mark Hunter, whose commitment to traditional winemaking techniques are in line with the philosophy behind She-Oak Hill. The resultant wines are of restrained power, waves of soft tannin with perfectly balanced fruit and elegance throughout.

She-Oak Hill produces approximately 500 cases of Shiraz per vintage, from 100% estate grown fruit.
