Gilberts Wines is 100% family run, owned and operated by the Gilbert family – fourth generation farmers. Now vignerons, their vines draw from the rich soils and cool climate of Mt Barker in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
It was the third generation who established the vineyard, with Jim and Bev Gilbert planting the first vines in 1985. Subsequent plantings were made in 1987, 1989, 1994 and 1997. They now have 24 acres of vineyards producing exceptional Riesling, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2014, the fourth generation of Gilberts, two of the three sons, Matthew and Clinton, returned to join the family business. Today Matthew is the viticulturalist and Clinton manages Gilberts and is also head of sales and marketing.
In 2017 Jim sadly passed away from Motor Neurone disease. However, his family continues to build on the legacy he and Bev created in crafting small batch, consistently high class wines that showcase the unique terroir of this beautiful region of WA.
