Brick Kiln produces outstanding, small batch, single vineyard Shiraz from its 20 acre vineyard nestled under the rolling Willunga Hills in southern McLaren Vale.
Planted in 1996, the Shiraz-only vineyard enjoys a particular microclimate – sea breezes from the Gulf cool the ripening grapes in the afternoon, and gully breezes from the Willunga Hills cool the vineyard by night – these elements combined with the vineyard’s rich loam soil allow Brick Kiln to consistently harvest ripe fruit of a high quality.
The vineyard is the passion of retired academics Malcolm and Alison Mackinnon. They bought the vineyard in 2001, prior to which they were foundation partners in Fox Creek Wines in McLaren Vale. A truly small batch operation, Brick Kiln produces about 1500 dozen bottles per vintage.
